Ron Adams used a two-stroke edge on the back nine to outdistance Don Ashworth for the championship of the 2009 NW La. District Senior Olympics golf championship at Northwood Hills GC April 24.
Adams posted a 2-over 74 to Ashworth’s 4-over 76. Larry Gilley and Val Tucker shared third place with scores of 79.
Marge Snyder posted an 83 to win the women’s division.
Adams and Ashworth shot 37s on the Northwood Hills front nine with Adams getting his third birdie of the nine at No. 9. Ashworth fell into a tie by bogeying the ninth. On the incoming nine, Adams had a lone bogey (at the long 14th hole) while Ashworth started a string of three bogeys in four holes at the 14th. Both golfers took the 18th hole, rated the course’s toughest assignment, in stride with pars.
Gold medals went to Snyder in women’s 70-plus and Susan Berry in women’s 60-64 in a scorecard playoff with Kathleen McCoy. In men’s play gold medalists were Steve Session (50-54), Bobby Washington (55-59), Ashworth (60-64), Adams (65-69), Larry Rowe (70-74) and Tucker (75-79).
“We had one of our best tournaments ever,” said District Chairman Doyle Blasingame. “Eddie Segeer and his staff at Northwood Hills were great hosts and went out of their way to make it a smoothly run event.” Blasingame added that golf committee members Susan Berry, Gary Price and Tom Perry were to be commended for their work.
