Beanie Boppers in action
Gold Medals will be decided in Bean Bag Baseball, darts, dance team and accuracy throws Tuesday (April 16) during Opening Ceremonies for the 21st Northwest Louisiana District Senior Olympics in The Riverdome of Horseshoe Casino.
The ceremonies and a senior health fair begin at 9 a.m. and are open to the public. Final activity of the day is the championship of the open division of Bean Bag Baseball at 1 p.m., pitting the Silver Sluggers against the Beanie Boppers. The Silver Sluggers went through the winner’s bracket unbeaten, so the Beanie Boppers must win two matches to claim the title. At 10 a.m. The Glen will play The Waterford for the Senior Residence Communities title.
The Beanie Boppers worked their way through the loser’s backet of the open Bean Bag Baseball competition and reached the championships in rousing fashion, beating Harry’s Crew, 36-16, in the key matchup. Harry’s Crew settled for the bronze medal.
In the march through the loser’s bracket, the Beanie Boppers defeated all three of the teams representing the Springhill Medical Center. Harry’s Crew was knocked into the losers bracket by the Silver Sluggers, but not without a fight. A last inning rally fell a run short at 17-16.
Dance team competition is slated for 9:30 a.m. with darts and accuracy throws starting at 10 a.m.
