Gary Crain, Jay Lindsey and Chip Hemphill were top scorers on the day, but Cindy Snyder, the lone female in the field, managed to make her first attempt at a 90-arrow event significant in the NW La. District Senior Olympics archery competition Saturday (April 20) at Red River Bowman Archery Club.
Snyder, of Bossier City, posted an 832 score in compound release. She was coaxed into the event at the last minute by meet director Emma Gene Brown after planning a less-strenuous day of 3D target shooting which would have required her shooting no more than 25 arrows. She expressed some trepedation before beginning. “I wasn’t sure I could go that long.”
Crain scored 868 in male compound release to beat Jerry Messina (751) and Butch Singletary (700) in the 60-64 age bracket. Lindsey posted an 868 also in compound release for 65-69 year olds followed by Phillip Thompson (824). Hemphill had an 863 score to outdistance George Johnson (790) in the 50-54 age category. In 75-79 age competition Mike Zenon outscored Bill Brown 842-826 for the gold medallion.
In male barebow recurve, Jim Metzger won with a 620 and in male recurve, Doug Gould posted a 698 for golds.
