Garry DePanion and his mother, Dorothy, show off medals they won in darts competitionin the NW La. District Senior Olympics. Dorothy won gold in her age bracket and Garry won silver in his first try in the senior games and the mother-son medal perfofrmance is a rarity in the district history.
Robin Chandler and Harold McEachern posted two victories each in throwing events as part of the Opening Ceremonies for the 21st district games April 16 in the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome, but the DePanions, mother and son, were involved in a rarity during the darts competition.
McEachern posted the best score of the day (310) to win the 75-79 gold medallion in accuracy throws and also was tops in the age group throwing darts. In winning golds in 60-64 age accuracy throws and darts, Chandler had the best darts score (205).
Dorothy DePanion captured the darts gold for females 80-89 year olds and her son, Garry, claimed the silver in his first Senior Olympics for men 50-64. There are few recorded mother-son medalists in the same event in the 21-year history of the district.
