Jerry Warren and Susan Berry won the Golf Sweepstakes Awards, Chuck Lancaster and Betty Smith the Throwing Sweepstakes awards and Dick Hainey and Jo Ann Smith the Bowling Sweepstakes in the 21st NW La. District Senior Olympics.
In each sweepstake, competitors had to take part in a specified number of events. In golf it was 18-hole golf, miniature golf and chip/putt competition; in bowling it was singles, doubles, mixed doubles, Scotch doubles and 9-Pin No Tap. Throw requirements were accuracy throws, ladders golf, darts, horseshoes and bocce ball. Points were awarded for first, second or third place finishes in age groups.
Steve Pinkley and Larry Jaubert finished behind Warren’s three golds and a bronze in men’s golf. Ruby Thomas was second in women’s throws, behind Betty Smith’s three golds and a silver.
Duane Chilton and Les Brosset followed Lancaster in men’s throws. Chuck had three golds, a silver and a bronze Jim Draper and Richard Rice were 2-3 men in the bowling sweepstakes, behind Hainey’s three golds and two silvers, and Susan Berry and Paula Hadwin tied for second behind Smith’s three golds, a silver and a bronze. Betty Hustead finished third among the women.
