The Beanie Boppers defeated the Go Getters, 24-19, Saturday and will face the Young Guns for the Gold Medal in the Northwest La. District Senior Olympics Beanbag Baseball competition on April 15 during the district’s Opening Ceremonies and Health Fair to be held in the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome.

The Young Guns reached the gold medal battle with three wins in the comeback bracket played at the Knights of Columbus Hall Saturday. They beat Harry’s Who Dats, 21-9, then edged the Diamonds, 19-17, and reached the showdown for gold by beating the Go Getters, 12-8. The Go Getters received the Bronze Medal (third place) in the target game which mimics outcomes found in real baseball.

Glynn Whitten produced a bases loaded home run and Pat Stell also homered in the top of the final inning to salt away the Beanie Boppers’ victory over the Go Getters.

In the comeback bracket, the Diamonds defeated the Silver Sluggers, 29-26. The Sluggers came to bat in the bottom of the final inning trailing by 16 runs.  They made it close with a 13-run outburst. Their loss to the Young Guns left the Diamonds in fourth place, a creditable effort in their first Beanbag tournament.

The Young Guns victory over the Go Getters found them erasing a 4-2 deficit with four runs in the fifth inning. They then scored six runs in the sixth inning after the first two batters were out.

The gold medal game will begin at 1 p.m. April 15 in the Riverdome, putting the finishing touches on a day fashioned for senior citizens. Various agencies and businesses that provide goods and services for seniors will maintain information booths during the day. The finals of Beanbag Baseball for Residential Communities teams, matching The Glen and Summerfield Estates, will begin at 10 a.m. Competition in darts and accuracy throws for Senior Olympics contestants will begin at 9 a.m.
