Bean Bag Baseball Saturday (March 26) and the Opening Ceremony and Senior Health Fair Monday (March 28) get the 2016 NW La. District Senior Olympics underway.
Between Saturday and May 31, there will be 23 sports and games conducted for men and women 50 years of age and older held in the Bossier-Shreveport area.
Barksdale Federal Credit Union is the presenter of Bean Bag Baseball which will bring 18 teams into competition, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Bossier Knights of Columbus Hall at 5400 East Texas Avenue. Barksdale FCU is one of two new presenting sponsors this year. The other is Humana which will present the Athletes Celebration May 31 at the KC Hall.
“We are bursting at the seams in the Bean Bag event and bursting with pride about it,” said new District Coordinator Ronny Comstock. “This is by far our largest entry yet in Bean Bag.”
The Opening Ceremonies and Senior Health Fair will begin at 9 a.m. Monday in the Expo Hall of Diamond Jack’s Casino. There will be numerous booths for companies who serve seniors at the Fair. Admission is free.
At 10 a.m. Monday, seniors will compete in darts and accuracy throws (football and Frisbee). Seniors must be pre-entered or complete entry forms with the $15 basic entry fee by 9:30 a.m. Monday to participate. Seniors may sign up for any of the other 20 events that remain on the schedule.
The NW LA District Senior Olympics is classified as an open, meaning competitors from throughout Louisiana and other states are welcome to enter.
