Vickie Mericle won her second consecutive Gold Medal in 8-Ball Pool competition and Bob Taylor returned to the top of the men’s competition at Randal T. Moore Center as the Northwest La. District Senior Olympics continued.
Mericle claimed the 60-69 age bracket win ahead of Betty Smith and Velma Johnson. Meanwhile, Ruby Thomas won gold in the 70-85 age bracket ahead of Delores Gentry and Teresa Lambert.
Taylor, a regular in the event over the years, took top honors in the men’s 60-74 group, after finishing second in 2015. Wayne Mayo claimed the Silver Medal with Richard Beall taking Bronze. Among players 75 and above, Fred Ford took Gold, Fred Walters Silver and Emile Tuminello Bronze. At 94 years of age, Tuminello is one of the older competitors in this year’s Northwest Louisiana District competition.
